WHAT EMPLOYERS WANT

Arete students were treated to a visit from Senior Management Consultant, Jenny Zhang, who talked about her career in consultancy and gave tips on the skills leading companies are looking for in new recruits.

Jenny, who works for Hay Group, has an illustrious track record having studied and worked at some of the most prestigious institutions in the world. Jenny undertook her undergraduate degree at Fudan University in Shanghai, one of the most selective universities in the world admitting less than 0.2% of college entrance examination takers. She went on to do an MBA at London Business School and The Booth School of Business at The University of Chicago. Her professional track record, prior to joining Hay Group, includes Accenture, Harvard Business Review and Credit Suisse.

Jenny talked to Arete students about careers in strategic management consultancy and the typical projects and daily routines of a consultant. She advised students that in addition to analytical and creative thinking, people skills, emotional intelligence and good communication skills are essential, in particular when dealing with organisational transformation and transition. She also explained that a good understanding of business and commercial principles were useful as her role is often acting on behalf of investors to improve the performance of their acquisitions.

Following her talk, Jenny joined Arete students for networking and drinks at the Arete Ningbo Campus.
